The government has reviewed the curfew hours in Bawku Municipality and its surrounding areas in the Upper East Region. The new hours will run from 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., effective Friday, 25 April 2025.
The announcement was made by the Minister for the Interior, Mr Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, based on advice from the Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and issued through an Executive Instrument.
The curfew was first introduced in February 2025 following renewed violence linked to a longstanding chieftaincy dispute between the Kusasi and Mamprusi communities.
The disturbances resulted in deaths, injuries, and growing insecurity, prompting the intervention of security agencies to restore calm.
The government has appealed to chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and residents to exercise restraint and to resolve grievances through peaceful means.
A ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons remains in place.
The Ministry warned that anyone found with such items would be arrested and prosecuted.
Mr Muntaka-Mubarak said the government would continue working with traditional authorities and residents to help maintain peace in the municipality.
