The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has officially inaugurated the newly constituted Board of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), signaling a renewed commitment to effective leadership and improved healthcare delivery across the country.

At a ceremony held in Accra, the Minister described the Ghana Health Service as the frontline institution in Ghanaโ€™s healthcare architecture, playing a crucial role in delivering services from Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds to regional hospitals.

โ€œThis inauguration is not just a ceremonyโ€”it is a call to action,โ€ the Minister stated. โ€œThe Ghana Health Service is the heartbeat of our health delivery system. Strong leadership at this level is critical if we are to succeed in our mission to reform and strengthen the sector.โ€

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh acknowledged several ongoing challenges confronting the health sector, including financial constraints, health worker migration, and changing disease patterns. He urged the new board to embrace innovation, prioritize service delivery, and put the needs of the Ghanaian patient at the center of all decisions.

โ€œLet today mark a turning point,โ€ he declared. โ€œLetโ€™s get to work because the health and well-being of our people depend on it.โ€

Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated GHS Board, Chairman Prof. Fred Newton Binka expressed appreciation for the trust placed in them and pledged the boardโ€™s readiness to serve with purpose, professionalism, and integrity.

โ€œWe are committed to enhancing service delivery, strengthening systems, and supporting the Ministry in achieving national health objectives,โ€ Prof. Binka assured.

The Minister also reiterated the governmentโ€™s support to the board, pledging to provide the necessary policy direction, infrastructure, and resources needed to enable the Ghana Health Service to fulfill its mandate effectively.

The inauguration of the GHS Board is expected to boost momentum in ongoing efforts to improve healthcare access, quality, and equity in Ghana.
