The Western North Regional Minister, Wilbert Petty Brentum, has, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, commended the hardworking cocoa farmers for their continuous dedication and contribution to national development.

Mr. Brentum expressed his appreciation to farmers for welcoming the governmentโ€™s recent increase in the producer price of cocoa from GHยข3,228 to GHยข3,625 per bag, representing an addition of GHยข400.

He emphasized that this upward adjustment demonstrates the governmentโ€™s commitment to the welfare of farmers and its determination to ensure that their efforts are duly rewarded.

The Regional Minister further announced additional government interventions aimed at supporting cocoa farmers across the country.

These interventions include the free supply of fertilizers to enhance productivity, the provision of free agrochemicals to protect and sustain cocoa farms, and technical and extension support services to help farmers achieve improved yields.

He also mentioned that the government has prioritized the rehabilitation of old and unproductive cocoa farms to restore them to full productivity.

According to him, these measures are part of a broader effort to boost cocoa production and sustain Ghanaโ€™s enviable position as a global leader in the cocoa industry.

Mr. Brentum assured farmers that the government remains resolute in its determination to provide the necessary support systems to enhance cocoa farming and rural development.

He also encouraged citizens of the Western North Region to embrace farming beyond cocoa, including food and other cash crops, as a means of improving livelihoods, strengthening food security, and promoting economic growth.

โ€œThis government thinks of farmers, supports farmers, and will continue to respond to their needs. Let us all go back to the drawing board and intensify our farming activities to secure a brighter future for Ghana,โ€ Mr. Brentum reiterated.
