The Sefwi Asawinso Development Association (SADA) has formally petitioned the Western North Regional Minister, Wilbert Petty Brentum, to help elevate Sefwi Asawinso to a full district status, describing the move as a vital step toward accelerating socio-economic development in the town.
The petition, signed by Prophet Dr. Wisdom Aha, General Secretary of SADA, was presented during a courtesy visit by the association’s leadership to the Regional Coordinating Council.
The delegation included SADA President and Co-Founder Mr. Lawrence Asiedu, Chaplain Apostle Shadrach Awuah, and Treasurer Madam Regina Asiedu.
Addressing the petition on behalf of SADA, Prophet Dr. Wisdom Aha, highlighted that Sefwi Asawinso’s growing population, strategic market position, and economic significance have outgrown its current administrative capacity.
He maintained that district status would strengthen government presence, improve resource distribution, enhance security, and grant the community greater autonomy to drive development initiatives.
SADA also drew attention to the deteriorating state of the Sefwi-Asawinso–Kojina–Essakrom road, describing it as a major hindrance to trade and daily commuting.
The association appealed to the government to prioritize its reconstruction to ensure safety and boost local commerce.
Concerns were further raised over alleged instances of excessive force by some police officers, particularly against Okada riders.
The group urged authorities to enforce professional oversight, enhance human rights training, and foster collaboration between the police and community stakeholders to sustain peace and mutual respect.
On healthcare, Prophet Dr. Wisdom Aha lamented the challenges facing the Sefwi Asawinso Government Hospital, including shortages of beds, lack of a theatre, inadequate staff accommodation, and the absence of a utility vehicle.
He announced SADA’s pledge to donate 20 hospital beds and called on both government and corporate bodies to support efforts in addressing these urgent needs.
Looking ahead, SADA proposed the establishment of a modern integrated agricultural university in Sefwi Asawinso to harness the town’s vast agricultural potential.
The envisioned institution would serve as a center for research, mechanization training, and rural industrial development in partnership with the government and international investors.
However, Prophet Dr. Wisdom Aha reaffirmed SADA’s commitment to mobilizing local and diaspora resources for community advancement.
“Together, let us make history for Sefwi Asawinso,” he declared, calling for collective action toward sustainable growth and prosperity.
Western North Regional Minister Wilbert Petty Brentum commended SADA for its proactive initiative, describing the engagement as “historic and commendable.”
He revealed that SADA is the first developmental association to officially submit such a petition since he assumed office.
The minister assured the delegation that their concerns would be duly considered and encouraged the association to maintain its developmental focus while remaining non-political.
