Sefwi Asawinso Child Murder: No Arrest Yet, Police Clarify to Journalists

The interim leadership of the Western Journalists Association has held a crucial engagement with the Western North Regional Police Command over the tragic death of 8-year-old Josephine Ayitey, whose body was discovered on a farm at Sefwi Asawinso within 24 hours after she was reported missing.

The meeting, held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, brought together journalists and the police leadership led by DCOP Dr Francis Tsidi to verify reports circulating within media circles that some suspects had been arrested.

According to the association, initial intelligence suggested that arrests had been made, prompting a press release after attempts to independently confirm the information proved unsuccessful.

However, during the engagement, the Regional Police Command clarified that, as of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. The command assured that extensive investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the crime.

The police leadership, through DCOP Dr Francis Tsidi, reaffirmed the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The interim Vice President of the Western Journalists Association, Benjamin Atta Agyeman, speaking on behalf of members, pledged the association’s full support to the police in ensuring that the case is thoroughly investigated and justice is served.

The association further emphasized its resolve to remain committed to responsible reporting and to support efforts aimed at bringing closure to the case of the late Josephine Ayitey.

The incident, which occurred at Sefwi Asawinso, has sparked widespread concern across the region, with calls for swift justice for the young victim.

Both the police and journalists assured the public of continued cooperation as investigations progress.
