Western North Regional Peace Council Holds Community Engagement at Agyemadiem

The Western North Regional Peace Council has organized a community engagement programme in Agyemadiem, in the Juaboso District, to promote peace, security, and community vigilance.

The programme, held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, brought together traditional leaders, security personnel, local authorities, and residents to discuss practical ways of preventing crime and strengthening peaceful coexistence.

The engagement was held under the theme “Promoting Community Vigilance”, with participants encouraged to stay alert, report suspicious activities, respect one another, build trust, strengthen their community, and work together to make a positive difference.

Inspector Obiri, Ghana Police Service

Speaking at the programme, Inspector Obiri of the Ghana Police Service, Asawinso Command, said the Peace Council had created an important platform for the Police to engage directly with communities in the fight against crime.

According to him, continuous interaction with residents enables the Police to better understand the security challenges facing communities and develop appropriate solutions.

“The Peace Council has provided a platform to engage communities to combat crime. The more we engage with the people, the more we understand their concerns and find better ways to address security issues,” he said.

“We have identified some challenges that we will work to resolve, and we encourage the Peace Council to continue involving the Police in promoting peace within our communities,” he added.

Rev. Frank Donkor, Western North Regional Peace Council.

A member of the Western North Regional Peace Council, Rev. Frank Donkor, emphasized that promoting peace remains the Council’s core mandate.

He explained that the programme was initiated to educate residents on the importance of peaceful coexistence, noting that no community can experience meaningful development without peace.

“If there is no peace in a community, children cannot study peacefully and workers cannot perform their duties effectively. This engagement is intended to educate the people on how to live peacefully. We encourage everyone to support the activities of the Peace Council so that Ghana will continue to enjoy lasting peace,” he stated.

Nana Kofi Donkor II, Chief of Agyemadiem

The Chief of Agyemadiem, Nana Kofi Donkor II, expressed appreciation to the Government and the Regional Peace Council for bringing the engagement to the community.

He noted that the programme had helped residents better understand the causes of conflict and the importance of maintaining peace.

“I thank the Government and the Peace Council for organizing this programme. It has helped us identify the issues that cause conflict and has deepened our understanding of how to maintain peace. I encourage everyone to embrace peaceful living in our community,” the chief said.

The Assembly Member for the Agyemadiem Electoral Area, Hon. Issac, also commended the organizers for the initiative, describing it as timely and beneficial to the security of the area.

He further thanked the District Chief Executive for plans to construct a police station in the community, expressing confidence that the project would significantly improve security and enhance law enforcement in Agyemadiem.

The community engagement forms part of the Western North Regional Peace Council’s efforts to strengthen collaboration among traditional authorities, security agencies, local government, and residents in promoting peace, preventing conflicts, and improving security across communities in the region.
