506 Feed Ghana Brigadiers Deployed to Drive Agricultural Transformation

The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has announced the successful graduation of 506 Feed Ghana Brigadiers who will spearhead the implementation of the government’s flagship Feed Ghana Programme across agricultural districts nationwide.

The officers passed out on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, after completing a specialised training programme at the Ghana Police Training School, designed to prepare them for their roles as District Feed Ghana Coordinators.

The newly trained Brigadiers, who are all graduates with advanced qualifications in agriculture, underwent intensive training aimed at equipping them with not only technical agricultural skills but also discipline, resilience, teamwork and a strong commitment to public service.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Mr Eric Opoku said the training programme was intentionally structured to move beyond traditional agricultural education by developing officers capable of handling the responsibilities associated with implementing national agricultural policies at the grassroots level.

“The Feed Ghana Brigadiers, a group of 506 individuals with advanced degrees in agriculture, who received rigorous training at the Ghana Police Training School, passed out earlier this morning,” the Minister stated.

He explained that the programme focused on building discipline, dedication, teamwork, resilience and respect for authority, qualities he described as essential for effective field operations.

“The purpose was to equip these officers with the necessary attributes required for successful field service and agricultural transformation,” Mr Opoku said.

He added that by combining their agricultural expertise with discipline and a strong sense of mission, the Brigadiers had been prepared to become champions of productivity, hard work and national development.

Mr Opoku said the officers would play a critical role beyond offering technical advice, as they would serve as frontline coordinators responsible for ensuring that government’s agricultural strategies translate into real outcomes within districts.

“Their responsibilities go beyond technical assistance. They are expected to take proactive steps in advancing agricultural development, ensuring accountability and delivering measurable results across all agricultural districts,” he said.

The Minister described the Feed Ghana Programme as a major national intervention aimed at strengthening food security, generating employment opportunities and promoting economic growth through agriculture.

He noted that the Brigadiers would serve as an important connection between national agricultural policies and their practical implementation at the district level.

According to him, the officers would coordinate farming activities, engage stakeholders, track progress and promote transparency and accountability in the delivery of the programme.

“Their practical involvement through direct interaction with farmers and communities is expected to introduce improved farming methods, increase production and address challenges faced by farmers on the ground,” Mr Opoku stated.

He indicated that the initiative would contribute to reducing Ghana’s reliance on imported food, strengthening agribusiness and supporting efforts towards achieving agricultural independence.

The Minister expressed confidence that the deployment of the Brigadiers would improve the impact and efficiency of government programmes within the agricultural sector.

He said the introduction of discipline, coordination and accountability would help improve farming systems and ensure better outcomes.

Mr Opoku further noted that increased food production and reduced post-harvest losses would enhance national food security while opening more opportunities for young people through agribusiness.

He added that the programme’s emphasis on agribusiness development and youth employment would contribute significantly to economic expansion and sustainable growth.
