Western North Regional Elections and Research Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Samuel Kofi Abiaw, has pledged to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures and restore its electoral fortunes if elected as the party’s Regional Secretary.
Mr. Abiaw, who is number 1 on the ballot paper for the NPP Western North Regional Secretary contest, made the declaration after the Regional Executive Vetting held on Monday, July 20, 2027, in Sefwi Wiawso.
Speaking exclusively to Sefwinews after the vetting, Mr. Abiaw said his decision to contest the position is driven by his experience, previous service to the party and his desire to help reposition the NPP ahead of future elections.
According to him, although he was unsuccessful in his previous bid for the position, his record of service as Deputy Regional Secretary before the creation of the Western North Region and later as Regional Secretary demonstrates his commitment and capability.
Mr. Abiaw recalled that during his tenure, the NPP secured all three parliamentary seats in the Western North Region, attributing the achievement to effective coordination, teamwork and a vibrant party structure.
He, however, expressed concern that after his departure from office, the party lost all three seats to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), securing only the Suaman Constituency.
“With the experience I have gathered over the years, I believe this is the right time for me to return and help manage the affairs of the party to achieve greater success,” he stated.
The Regional Elections and Research Officer further indicated that one of his key priorities would be to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures, particularly the polling station executives, whom he described as the foundation of the NPP.
He explained that under his leadership, polling station executives would be encouraged to hold monthly meetings to discuss party matters, while constituency executives would submit monthly and quarterly reports through their constituency secretaries to the regional office for timely intervention and decision-making.
Mr. Abiaw stressed that polling station executives have responsibilities that extend beyond election day activities, noting that they play a vital role in the growth, organization and electoral success of the party.
Reflecting on his previous tenure as Regional Secretary, he said all organs of the party at both the regional and constituency levels functioned effectively, creating a more united, active and vibrant party structure.
He therefore appealed to delegates across the Western North Region to support his candidacy, assuring them that his leadership would focus on rebuilding the party, strengthening internal structures and reclaiming the three parliamentary seats lost to the NDC.
“I am calling on all delegates to vote for me so that together we can rebuild the party, strengthen our grassroots and reclaim the three parliamentary seats,” he appealed.
