Pious Vincent Abakah, NPP Western North Regional Chairmanship aspirant, says more than 20 years of service, sacrifice and unwavering support for the party have prepared him to take up the mantle of leadership in the region.
In an exclusive interview with Sefwinews, Mr Abakah said his decision to contest the regional chairmanship was not driven by ambition alone, but by a desire to give back to a party he has consistently supported with his resources, experience, ideas and organisational skills.
He recalled his contribution to the NPP’s electoral efforts over the years, including his support for the party’s 2016 campaign, the provision of two brand-new pickup vehicles for campaign activities in 2020, and his contribution of nine motorbikes and 4,500 T-shirts during the 2024 campaign.
According to him, the 4,500 T-shirts were distributed among various aspirants, with 500 going to each, while the motorbikes were deployed to support campaign activities.
Mr Abakah said these contributions demonstrated a long-standing commitment to the NPP rather than an attempt to gain recognition.
Ready to Lead
Mr Abakah said his corporate experience, coupled with his years of involvement in the party, had equipped him with the leadership, organisational and management skills required to lead the NPP in Western North.
He said he had worked with people from different backgrounds and understood how to build teams, resolve challenges and nurture growth.
“I have served, sacrificed and supported the NPP for years. Now I believe I am ready to lead,” Mr Abakah told Sefwinews.
He said his leadership would focus on rebuilding the party from the grassroots, strengthening its structures and making the NPP more attractive and effective.
Grassroots Empowerment
A key part of Mr Abakah’s proposed leadership agenda is grassroots empowerment.
He pledged to promote employment initiatives, skills training and other opportunities that would benefit party members, particularly young people and women.
He also promised to monitor the implementation of projects across the region’s municipalities and districts to ensure fairness and equal distribution of resources.
Mr Abakah said he understood the party’s chain of command, from polling-station executives to the regional level, and would work to resolve challenges at the grassroots before they affected the party’s wider structures.
Unity as a Path to Victory
Mr Abakah identified unity as one of the most important requirements for the NPP to regain power in 2028.
He said divisions and factionalism had weakened the party and reduced its ability to operate as a united political force.
According to him, the party must learn from periods when members were united behind a common objective.
He urged NPP members to put aside their differences after the flagbearer election and support whoever emerges as the party’s presidential candidate.
“Once a flagbearer is elected, we all belong to one party,” he said, stressing that the interest of the NPP must come before individual camps.
Mr Abakah said his experience working with different party leaders had demonstrated his ability to bring people together.
Youth and Women Empowerment
The chairmanship aspirant also highlighted youth and women empowerment as a major component of his vision for the party.
He said his support for young people had gone beyond financial assistance, as he had also provided ideas, mentorship and practical guidance to help them establish sustainable livelihoods.
He recalled assisting a young man involved in rabbit farming by offering advice that, according to him, became the foundation of the young entrepreneur’s livelihood.
Mr Abakah said he would expand such initiatives to reach more young people and women across the Western North Region if elected.
A Record of Sacrifice
Mr Abakah further pointed to his long record of support for the NPP as evidence of his commitment to the party.
He said that in 2015, he helped connect radio stations across Western North for rebroadcasting, contributing to the party’s communication efforts.
He also cited the provision of vehicles, motorbikes and campaign T-shirts over the years as part of his contribution to strengthening the party.
He maintained that his financial and logistical contributions were not made for personal recognition but out of his belief in the NPP and its political ideals.
Mr Abakah said he had always believed in confronting internal challenges honestly rather than allowing them to undermine the party.
Message to Delegates
Mr Abakah appealed to NPP delegates and executives across Western North to consider his record of service, sacrifice, corporate experience and commitment to the party when choosing their next regional chairman.
He said the party needed leadership that would listen to the grassroots, address internal challenges and unite members around a common purpose.
He also cited the political progression of Mr Mark Manu as an inspiration, saying he hoped to continue rising through the party’s ranks while serving at higher levels.
Mr Abakah reaffirmed his commitment to helping rebuild the NPP in Western North and contributing to the party’s quest to win the 2028 general elections.
