Sefwi Bekwai Senior High School [ SEBESS ], has marked a significant milestone in its history with its maiden matriculation ceremony, officially welcoming newly admitted students into the institution.
The ceremony, held on Friday, October 30, 2026, brought together the Omanhene of the Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Council, Oyeadeyie Basape Kwadwo Armah III, and his elders, the school board chairman and members, academics, teachers, non-teaching staff, old students and parents.

Addressing the gathering, the Headmaster, Mr Prince Abubakar Djibo, urged the students to embrace discipline, determination and hard work as they begin a new chapter in their educational journey.
He acknowledged that some students had entered the school with weak Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) grades but encouraged them not to allow their past academic performance to define their future.
“Your BECE grade is not your destiny. Your destiny will be determined by what you do from today onwards,” he told the students.
To address learning difficulties, particularly in English Language and Mathematics, Mr Djibo announced the introduction of a special bridging and remedial programme, with additional lessons scheduled from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The school will also introduce compulsory silent reading sessions to improve students’ reading habits.
The headmaster further stressed the importance of discipline, reminding students that their conduct would reflect not only on themselves but also on the reputation of the school.
“Discipline in your studies, in your dressing, in your language. Remember, you are the first. If you fail in discipline, the whole school fails,” he cautioned.
He also urged the students to appreciate the sacrifices made by their parents and guardians by remaining focused on their studies and making the most of the opportunities available to them.

The Omanhene of the Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Council, Oyeadeyie Basape Kwadwo Armah III, described the maiden matriculation as an important milestone in the school’s development and the traditional area.
He commended the school authorities for organising the ceremony and encouraged the newly admitted students to see their admission as the beginning of greater responsibilities rather than an achievement in itself.
“What you make of this opportunity will depend largely on your attitude, discipline, determination and willingness to learn,” he stated.
The Omanhene also cautioned against examination malpractice, leaked examination questions and other dishonest practices, urging students to pursue academic excellence with integrity.
He reminded them that certificates obtained through dishonest means could never replace the knowledge, skills and good character required to succeed in life.

The maiden matriculation ceremony marked a new chapter for Sefwi Bekwai Senior High School, reinforcing its commitment to nurturing disciplined, responsible and academically capable students.
For the fresh students, the occasion carried a simple but powerful message: gaining admission is only the beginning; what they make of the opportunity will determine their future.
