Western North RCC records over GHC 3 Million in Revenue mobilization

The Western North Regional Coordinating Council has announced that it fell short of its Internal Generation Fund (IGF) target, collecting only 3 million 741 thousand Cedis and 296.27 Pessewas out of the 8 million 730 thousand Cedis and 195.90 Pessewas it aimed to generate.

This revelation was made during the 2023 composite budget hearing for the preparation of the 2024-2027 budget at the Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly.

The announcement was delivered by the Regional Coordinating Director, Ebenezer Amoah, on behalf of the Regional Minister, Richard Ebba Obeng.

The Regional Minister expressed concern over the region’s inability to meet its revenue generation goal, highlighting the critical role of the Internal Generation Fund in sustaining the operations and development projects of the region.

Revenue mobilization has been a significant challenge for all nine Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Western North Region.

The shortfall in IGF collection is particularly concerning as it occurred within the first four months of the year 2023, indicating a concerning trend for the remainder of the year.

In response to this shortfall, the Regional Minister called on all MMDCEs to adopt innovative measures to improve revenue collection and ensure the efficient operation of their respective assemblies.

He stressed the importance of meeting revenue targets to facilitate the delivery of essential services and development projects within the region.

Additionally, a message was read on behalf of the Finance Minister, with the Director of the Fiscal Decentralization Unit (FDU), Madam Akua Asamoah, urging all Municipal and District Assemblies to explore strategic approaches to increase revenue.

The message emphasized the need for assemblies to be proactive in finding ways to attain their revenue targets and support local development initiatives.
