Digitalisation saves GH¢600m from wrong pockets at ECG monthly – Dr Bawumia

The Vice President and Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, has indicated that digitalisation has impacted on curbing corruption and improving financial transparency within state agencies.

The Vice President speaking to the clergy at Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region as part of his ‘Bold Solution Tour’ in the region said state funds have been prevented from going to the wrong places.

He noted that the digitalization efforts have prevented a substantial amount of state funds from being misappropriated, stating that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), for example, has seen a notable increase in revenue.

Dr. Bawumia stated that before the digitalization initiative, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) was generating revenue amounting to GH¢450 million monthly.

The Vice President noted that since the implementation of cashless processes, the ECG’s monthly earnings have soared to GH¢1.1 billion, highlighting the effectiveness of digital solutions in improving financial accountability and curbing leakages.

This indicate that the implementation of digital systems has prevented approximately GH¢600 million from being siphoned into unauthorized channels at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) on a monthly basis.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized that digitalization is a crucial tool in the fight against corruption, as it enhances transparency and accountability in financial transactions.

He urged other state agencies to emulate ECG’s example and embrace digital solutions to improve efficiency and reduce opportunities for corruption.

In response to Dr. Bawumia’s address, Bishop Francis Kyei, the Founder and Leader of New Wave Gospel Ministry, commended the Vice President for his efforts and expressed confidence in his leadership abilities.

He praised the gathering as progress in the right direction, acknowledging its role in dispelling misunderstandings and enhancing comprehension of the government’s initiatives.
