President John Dramani Mahama has terminated the appointments of all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives, as well as other government appointees, exercising the powers vested in him as President of Ghana.
This decision was communicated in a letter addressed to the Chief Director of the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development, signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Calistus Mahama .
As a result, all affected officers have been instructed to hand over their duties to their respective Metropolitan, Municipal, or District Coordinating Directors.
This move marks a significant change in the country’s local government administration.
It’s worth noting that President Mahama’s decision is in line with the Local Government Act, 2016 (Act 936), which grants the President the authority to revoke appointments of Chief Executives of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies.
