Aowin NDC fires back at KESSBEN TV host over false allegations against Ofori-Larbi

The Aowin NDC Communications Bureau has strongly refuted claims made by KESSBEN TV host Andy Kwame Appiah Kubi about Oscar Ofori-Larbi, the Member of Parliament for Aowin, calling the allegations unfounded and harmful.

In a statement issued earlier today signed by Ali Asumana,
Deputy Communications Officer, Aowin NDC, addressed several serious accusations made by Appiah Kubi during his recent broadcast.

The host alleged that Oscar Ofori-Larbi had raised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag at the Tano-Ahwia forest in connection with illegal mining activities. The party dismissed these allegations as “completely baseless and lacking any factual foundation.”

Further accusations suggested that Oscar Ofori-Larbi had formed a task force led by individuals named Karim and Clement, who were allegedly involved in the unlawful seizure of land from miners with valid legal documentation. These claims, according to the NDC, are also false and unsupported by any evidence.

In addition, Appiah Kubi claimed that Oscar Ofori-Larbi ordered miners to halt operations and seized their machinery within just three days of winning the recent general elections.

The NDC strongly rejected this assertion as a misrepresentation of the Oscar Ofori-Larbi’s actions.

The statement also clarified an incident at the Tano-Ahwia forest that led to a fatality. The NDC explained that Karim and his associates are longtime NDC supporters who have provided security services for the party during events in the Aowin municipality, particularly during the 2024 election campaign.

The group was reportedly attacked by armed robbers at their mining site, resulting in an exchange of gunfire that led to the death of one robber. Oscar Ofori-Larbi had no involvement in the incident, the party affirmed.

The NDC expressed deep concern about Appiah Kubi’s unsubstantiated claims, calling it “irresponsible and unprofessional” for a journalist to make serious allegations without seeking the perspective of the accused.

The Aowin NDC, led by Chairman Mahama Sarni, vowed to pursue legal action if the comments were found to be defamatory.

In closing, the party urged media professionals to uphold journalistic integrity and verify facts before airing statements that could damage the reputation of individuals.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

24th January, 2025

Response to False Claims Made by KESSBEN TV Host Andy Kwame Appiah Kubi Regarding Hon. Oscar Ofori-Larbi

The Aowin NDC Communications Bureau wishes to address and debunk the unfounded claims made by Mr. Andy Kwame Appiah Kubi, host of the Morning Show on KESSBEN TV, concerning Hon. Oscar Ofori-Larbi, Member of Parliament for the Aowin constituency.

Mr. Appiah Kubi has made several allegations that are not only untrue but also damaging to the reputation of Hon. Ofori-Larbi. Specifically, he claimed that the Hon. MP raised a flag of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the Tano-Ahwia forest in connection with illegal mining activities (galamsey). This allegation is completely baseless and lacks any factual basis.

Furthermore, Mr. Appiah Kubi asserted that Hon. Ofori-Larbi has formed a task force led by individuals named Karim and Clement, who are purportedly seizing lands owned by miners with legal documentation. These claims are equally unfounded and devoid of any evidence.

Additionally, he alleged that within three days of winning the recent general elections, Hon. Ofori-Larbi instructed all miners to cease operations and confiscated their machinery. This assertion is also untrue and misrepresents the actions and intentions of the Hon. MP.

The recent incident at Tano-Ahwia forest, which resulted in one fatality, has been mischaracterized. It is important to clarify that Hon. Ofori-Larbi had no involvement in this unfortunate event. Karim and his associates are supporters of the NDC who have long time provided security services for the party at all NDC-hosted events in the Aowin municipality during the 2024 election campaign.

They were attacked by armed robbers at their own mining site, where the robbers opened fire on them while they were working which led to exchange of gun shots.
This led to a confrontation in which one of the robbers was killed.

It is irresponsible and unprofessional for a journalist like Andy Appiah Kubi to make such serious allegations on national television without first seeking the Honorable Member’s perspective.

If Mr. Appiah Kubi’s comments were made with the intent to defame Hon. Ofori-Larbi, we want to assure the public that the NDC party in Aowin, led by our Chairman Mahama Sarni, will take appropriate legal action to address this matter.

We urge all media personnel to uphold the principles of journalistic integrity and professionalism by verifying facts before making public statements that could harm individuals’ reputations.
