A devastating fire that swept through the Madina Redco Flats late last night has destroyed more than 150 structures.
A young woman, believed to be a Nigerian national identified only as Beauty and in her early twenties, tragically lost her life in the blaze. Her charred remains have been handed over to the Madina Police for preservation and further investigation.
The fire, which reportedly started around 11:15 p.m., consumed 140 wooden structures and 20 metal containers used for both residential and commercial purposes.
Firefighters from the Madina Fire Station arrived on the scene within two minutes and were supported by teams from Adenta, Legon, Abelemkpe, and the Headquarters. Despite their swift response, the fire was already at an advanced stage when they arrived.
However, the firefighting teams managed to confine the blaze by 12:02 a.m. and fully extinguished it by 2:22 a.m.
Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage and investigating the cause of the fire, as affected residents and business owners begin to count their losses.
