The Western North Regional Audit Office has announced the commencement of a comprehensive payroll audit and headcount exercise for all government employees across the region, excluding personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The special audit, which falls under the nationwide Payroll Audit of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, and run through Monday, June 9, 2025. This exercise is part of the Audit Service’s constitutional mandate to ensure accountability and transparency in public sector wage administration.
In an exclusive interview with Sefwinews, Mr. Samuel Nii Odartey Lamptey, the Western North Regional Auditor, emphasized the importance of the audit in validating the accuracy of government payroll and identifying any irregularities such as ghost names or unauthorized salary payments.
“Our Regional and District offices will work closely with Heads of institutions and key officers such as HR personnel, Circuit Supervisors of schools, and others across various Management Units,” Mr. Lamptey said.
He further assured that despite the logistical challenges posed by the remote locations of some government facilities, the Audit Service is committed to reaching all operational zones in the region.
“Considering the location of some facilities, efforts would be made to cover hard-to-reach areas in the various Districts and Zones,” he added.
The exercise will cover all nine districts and regional offices within the Western North Region, and heads of institutions have been urged to fully cooperate with audit teams to ensure a smooth and successful process.
This payroll audit is expected to enhance efficiency in public financial management and help the government reduce wasteful expenditure while promoting credibility and trust in the civil service system.
