The newly appointed District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sekyere Central, Appiah Somuah, has vowed to work tirelessly to protect and improve the lives of residents within the district.
Speaking during a series of stakeholder engagements, Mr. Somuah emphasized the government’s commitment to delivering quality services across sectors including transportation, education, and security.
In a meeting with transport unions including the Drivers Association, Transport Union, TUC, and the Cooperative Transport Body, the DCE assured them that recent deductions in transportation costs, as signed by the government for nationwide implementation, signal a positive step toward reshaping Ghana’s economy.
“The reduction is a clear sign that Ghana is being repositioned for progress,” he noted. “Drivers and transport operators are excited about the dialogue. We are addressing concerns about transportation fares and fuel pricing, and we will continue to work with all stakeholders to ensure fairness and sustainability.”

School Feeding Program Under Scrutiny
Mr. Somuah also paid unannounced visits to several basic schools in the district to inspect the ongoing Ghana School Feeding Program (GSFP).
He said the inspections are crucial to ensure the program is delivering on its promise to provide nutritious meals to children in public schools, especially in deprived communities.
“These visits are not just ceremonial. We must ensure that meals are served consistently, the food meets nutritional standards, and the right children are benefiting. It’s about accountability and care for our future generation,” he stressed.
Police Service Needs Support
During his tour, Mr. Somuah also visited the Sekyere Central District Police Command, where officers outlined several challenges hindering their operations. The police cited constraints in logistics, personnel, and funding as major obstacles to effective law enforcement.
The DCE responded promptly, promising to take swift action.
“I have heard your concerns and will take them up with the appropriate authorities. His Excellency former President John Dramani Mahama, in collaboration with the Sekyere Central District Assembly, will ensure that the police service here is well-resourced to maintain peace and security,” he stated.
Mr. Appiah Somuah’s assurance and proactive engagement with local institutions have been widely welcomed by residents, many of whom expressed renewed hope in local governance under his leadership.
As he settles into office, the new DCE has pledged transparency, community involvement, and results-driven administration to ensure Sekyere Central thrives in all sectors.
