The Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Disease Control Office, under the Municipal Health Directorate, has confirmed twelve (12) cases of the Mpox virus in the municipality.

In an interview with Kaakyire on Okyeame Radioโ€™s Adekyee Mu Nsem, Municipal Disease Control Officer, Doris Verome, expressed concern over the rapid spread of the virus, highlighting that many affected individuals are hesitant to seek hospital treatment.

Out of thirty-three (33) suspected cases, twelve (12) tested positive, making Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai the second most affected area in the Western North Region, after Aowin District.

Doris Verome noted that many people mistakenly consider Mpox a mild illness similar to chickenpox, despite slight differences.

โ€œWhen a person is affected, it can be transmitted from person to person,โ€ she explained. โ€œIt can also spread through direct contact with infected animals or humans, so we are all at high risk.โ€

Doris Verome further outlined measures being implemented to contain the virus, noting that among the municipalityโ€™s four sub-districts, Anhwiaso is the only area yet to report a case.

She urged residents to remain vigilant and adhere to health guidelines as the virus continues to spread.
