Former Member of Parliament for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai, Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu, has strongly criticized the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, for what he described as an unjustifiable comment regarding the partyโ€™s 2026 presidential race.

During Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumiaโ€™s recent tour of the Ashanti Region, Chairman Wontumi reportedly declared that โ€œexcept Dr. Bawumia becomes president, none of the other aspirants will be.โ€

Reacting to the statement in an interview on Okyeame Radioโ€™s morning show hosted by Kaakyire, Aboagye Gyedu said Wontumi was โ€œstill unconscious and unaware that he is in opposition,โ€ urging that โ€œsomeone should wake him up because he is dreaming and not facing reality.โ€

He stressed that Kennedy Agyapongโ€™s campaign team will not allow themselves to be intimidated as they were during the 2023 contest, insisting that adequate measures have been put in place to protect voters and their ballots.

According to him, the Bawumia camp is already sensing defeat and has resorted to strategies aimed at frustrating Kennedy Agyapongโ€™s supporters, but such tactics will not be tolerated.

The former Western North Regional Minister further warned that if the NPP loses the 2028 general elections, the party risks remaining in opposition for a very long time, possibly over a decade.

He therefore called on delegates and party members to make the right choice now by rallying behind Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
