The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 12-year-old boy and a 34-year-old man suspected to be the driver of a DAF XF 105 articulated truck after a video showing the minor driving the heavy-duty vehicle went viral.
The two suspects were arrested following public concerns over the video, which showed the child allegedly behind the wheel of the truck, raising questions about road safety and the enforcement of regulations governing the use of motor vehicles.
The Police said the suspects are currently in the custody of the Central Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) in Accra, assisting with investigations into the incident.
The vehicle involved in the incident has been identified as a DAF XF 105 articulated truck with registration number GS 3097-20.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, August 1, the Police Service cautioned parents, guardians, and vehicle owners against allowing minors or unlicensed persons to operate motor vehicles, particularly heavy-duty trucks.
The Service warned that such actions endanger the lives of road users and violate provisions under the Road Traffic Act.
The Police further urged the public to support road safety initiatives by reporting similar incidents and helping to ensure responsible use of Ghana’s roads.
