Eluo Festival to commence on Thursday, October 19

The Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council is all set to commence the much-anticipated MTN 2023 Eluo Festival on Thursday, October 19, 2023.

This annual festival, which pays homage to the rich cultural heritage of the people of Sefwi , will continue through to November 19, 2023, promising a month-long celebration of tradition and unity.

This year, the Eluo Festival was launched under the theme, “Ensuring Proactive Socio-Economic Development in Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, The Role of Traditional Leaders.”

The theme underscores the vital role traditional leaders play in promoting development and unity in the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council.

A plethora of exciting activities have been lined up for the festival, catering to diverse interests and age groups. Highlights include a Traditional drumming and dancing competition, candlelight procession, Inter-district Quiz competition, football Gala, Health walk, and screening, the popular Mr. and Miss Eluo pageant, and a thrilling cooking competition, among others.

The Eluo Festival, also known as the Yam Festival, holds great significance for the people of Sefwi. This traditional celebration has been passed down through generations, and during this festive season, locals extend a warm welcome to visitors, offering them a taste of the region’s culinary delights and a glimpse into their vibrant culture.

Traditional clothing is donned, and a grand durbar of chiefs and residents serves as a symbolic display of the area’s rich heritage.

Music and dance are integral to the Eluo Festival, and it often culminates in a street jam featuring top music artists, adding a modern twist to the age-old traditions.

The festival serves as a reminder of a significant event in the Sefwi history and continues to foster unity, friendship, and development among its people.

Before the celebration of the festival, the wise council of chiefs comes together to resolve any outstanding matters to ensure a peaceful and incident-free event.

The MTN 2023 Eluo Festival promises a month filled with cultural immersion, celebration, and a vibrant showcase of the Sefwi’s rich heritage and traditions.
