Growing up, I came to hear some namesโgreat personalities across the length and breadth of our country. One among them is Osei Kwame Despite. Sources from Wikipedia indicate that Osei Kwame Despite was born on February 2, 1962, at Wiamoase in the Ashanti Region.
Kwame Despite is mostly known and remembered for his early occupation. He was one of the leading distributors of movies and music cassettes, feeding bottles, padlocks, and other items in Kumasi. He ventured into many other businesses, but it was the cassette business that sustained him the most.
Through the cassette business, Kwame became popular and wealthy. He has established many businesses and won numerous awards, both locally and internationally.
Alexander Adu Quist: A man who was born on July 7, 1987, at Sefwi Asempaneye in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region.
In the early stages of his life, Alexander Adu Quist, after completing senior high school in Toase in 2007, moved to Kumasi to venture into the movie and music cassette business. He sold movies and music cassettes, padlocks, and other items in Kumasi.
The name of his business was “Use Your Brain Multimedia Company Limited.” Business was going well for him, and it was his dream to also succeed like Osei Kwame Despite. Adu Quist was more business-minded than anything else. He was very dedicated to his work and had excellent customer relations.
While chasing his dreams, he one day received a call from an astute politician in the then Juaboso District to join him in his political journey. A man who was focused and determined to make it in life through selling movies and music cassettes had to switch everything in a different directionโand that wasn’t an easy decision to make.
Lo and behold, he left the cassette business and joined Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the then aspiring Member of Parliament for the Juaboso Constituency, in the 2012 general election. His presence made it easier for Akandoh to win his maiden election as MP.
Adu Quist’s great contributions earned him the position of Constituency Communications Officer. He continued to do his best to help his party, the NDC, even when the party went into opposition in 2016. He was later elected as the Constituency Secretary.
Adu Quist, at a point in time, became a laughingstock as people thought he was jobless and virtually doing nothing apart from politics. Some were even bold enough to tell him to quit politics and find something better to do with his life.
Despite all this, Quist never quit! He gathered those lemons and made lemonade. He encouraged himself and strived harder.
Since vindication is in the womb of time, after the NDC won the election in 2024, because of his dedication and hard work, the Member of Parliament, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, also showed him love. Alexander Adu Quist has been nominated as the District Chief Executive of Juaboso.
This is a testament to his dedication and services rendered to the party since 2009. I wish him success, and may his dreams of becoming who he wants to be come to pass. Congratulations, Alexander Adu Quist!
