Suspected armed robbers attacked a group of miners on the Kotokuom road near Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

The incident, which occurred around 9:00 p.m., resulted in one miner sustaining critical injuries.

According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants, believed to be operating within the vicinity of Nyinahin, robbed the miners of cash and mobile phones during the violent attack.

One of the victims, identified as 26-year-old Michael Larry, suffered a gunshot wound to his leg.

He was initially rushed to the Nkawie Community Hospital for immediate medical attention but was subsequently transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi due to the severity of his injuries.

The victim’s brother, Stanley Obeng Larry, confirmed the details of the attack and expressed deep concern over the escalating insecurity in the Nyinahin area and its surrounding roads.

In the wake of this latest incident, residents of communities along the Kotokuom–Nyinahin road have made an urgent appeal to the Ghana Police Service to increase patrols and security presence in the area.

They hope that a more visible police presence will help to deter the rising threat of armed robbery targeting both miners and commuters who use this route.

The incident has heightened fears among the local mining community and those traveling in the Atwima Mponua District.
