Boinzan Waterfall development gains momentum as gov’t takes action

The Boinzan Waterfall, a hidden gem in the Juaboso District, is finally receiving the attention it deserves.

This long-overlooked natural wonder is poised to become a major tourism attraction, thanks to the unwavering advocacy of Nana Ofori Ahenkan II, the Chief of Sefwi Boinzan, and the commitment of Ghana’s new administration led by President John Dramani Mahama.

This initiative, which was first highlighted during the 2024 Elluo Festival, is now set to transform the region’s economic and social landscape.

A Vision for Transformation

During the 2024 Elluo Festival, Nana Ofori Ahenkan II made an impassioned plea to then-NDC running mate, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, now Ghana’s Vice President, emphasizing the immense potential of the Boinzan Waterfall.

He underscored how its development into a full-fledged tourist attraction would not only unlock economic opportunities but also create much-needed employment for the youth in Sefwi Boinzan and beyond.

His vision for the waterfall extends beyond leisure and recreation, incorporating education, environmental sustainability, and economic empowerment.

At a grand durbar in Sefwi Boinzan, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, representing President Mahama, assured the chief and the people that an NDC-led government would prioritize the transformation of the waterfall.

She highlighted the multi-faceted benefits of the project, including its potential to serve as an educational hub, an employment generator, and a catalyst for regional tourism development.

A Commitment Realized

Since assuming office, the new administration has wasted no time in taking tangible steps towards fulfilling this promise.

Nana Ofori Ahenkan II has actively engaged with key government stakeholders to ensure the realization of this ambitious project.

His recent meeting with the Minister of Tourism, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has set the stage for substantial progress.

As a result of these high-level engagements, the Minister of Tourism has instructed the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC), under the leadership of CEO, Prof. Kobby Mensah, to conduct an official site visit.

The purpose of this visit is to assess the waterfall’s potential, identify key infrastructural needs, and formulate a roadmap for its full-scale development into a premier tourist destination.

A Milestone for Sefwi Boinzan

In a landmark achievement, the Sefwi Boinzan Divisional Council has received an official letter from GTDC confirming the upcoming site visit.

This critical assessment will lay the foundation for a comprehensive development plan, covering aspects such as infrastructure improvements, environmental conservation, and sustainable economic exploitation.

This development represents a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to elevate the tourism profile of Juaboso District. If executed properly, the project could position Boinzan as a key player in Ghana’s tourism sector, attracting both local and international visitors while driving economic growth.

The Road Ahead

While the commitment from government stakeholders is commendable, it is crucial to ensure that this project does not lose momentum.

The transformation of the Boinzan Waterfall into a world-class attraction will require continuous political will, adequate funding, and community involvement. Stakeholders must work collaboratively to develop a sustainable tourism model that benefits the local population and preserves the natural integrity of the site.

As this initiative unfolds, Sefwi Boinzan and the entire Juaboso District stand on the brink of an economic and cultural renaissance. The people of Boinzan can be hopeful that their dream of a thriving tourism sector is within reach.

Sefwinews and The Legend TV will continue to provide timely updates on this groundbreaking development. We extend our highest commendation to Nana Ofori Ahenkan II for his steadfast dedication to the growth and prosperity of Sefwi Boinzan, and we urge all relevant stakeholders to ensure that this vision is brought to full fruition.
