Dr. Tahiru Pledges Financial Reforms, Transparency in NPP National Treasurer Bid

A Chartered Accountant and aspiring National Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Issahaku Tahiru, has outlined a bold vision to transform the party’s financial management system through transparency, accountability, and professionalism.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Sefwinews, Dr. Tahiru expressed gratitude to party members and supporters, saying he was honoured to share his vision for the position of National Treasurer.

According to him, the success and sustainability of every organisation depend largely on how effectively its finances are managed, safeguarded, and utilised to implement programmes and budgets.

“The survival of every organisation largely depends on how best and how well its finances are managed, how well the finances are protected, and how well programmes and budgets are implemented,” he stated.

Dr. Tahiru noted that the office of the National Treasurer has largely operated under a routine system over the years. However, he believes the time has come to introduce innovative financial management practices that will inspire confidence among party members and the general public.

“This time around, we intend to come in to revolutionise the system so that every party member and those outside the fraternity will have a reason to trust the system, believe in the system, and contribute their best towards rebuilding the party and recapturing political power,” he said.

He stressed that restoring trust within the party is essential to the NPP’s preparations for the 2028 general elections, adding that rebuilding the party requires loyalty, confidence, and transparent financial leadership.

Touching on his qualifications, Dr. Tahiru argued that while the National Treasurer is an elected political office, the responsibilities attached to it require technical expertise rather than political experience alone.

“As you rightly put it, we are politicians, and the position that I’m looking for is a political position. However, the work of a National Treasurer must not necessarily be the work of a politician. It is a technical position that requires competence, experience, and professionalism,” he explained.

Dr. Tahiru highlighted his extensive professional background, revealing that he has been a Chartered Accountant for 25 years with vast experience in accounting, finance, budgeting, and public financial management.

He also pointed to his years of service at the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), where he gained valuable exposure in financial administration and public sector management.

The aspiring National Treasurer said his professional journey has shaped his leadership philosophy, which is built on integrity, accountability, transparency, and prudent financial management.

“One of the values I stand on is integrity. For one to be successful and earn the trust of the people, one has to demonstrate leadership, and leadership comes with integrity,” he noted.

He added that maintaining clean financial records would strengthen confidence among party faithful and encourage greater support for the NPP.

“I stand on integrity, accountability, transparency, and clean books. I believe clean books will earn the trust of our people, and that trust will translate into victory for us in the 2028 general elections,” Dr. Tahiru concluded.
