The assembly member for Asawinso ‘A’ Electoral Area in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality, who also serves as the Western North regional President of the Ghana Association of Assembly Members (GAAM), Frank Nelson Ackah, has called on the police to enhance security measures in the area to prevent further attacks on residents.
This appeal follows a series of violent incidents that have left the community in a state of fear and uncertainty. Over the past two weeks, two men have been killed under suspicious circumstances, raising alarm among the locals.
Frank Nelson Ackah highlighted the influx of unfamiliar individuals into the town due to galamsey (illegal mining) operations, which has exacerbated the security situation.
He urged the security forces to take immediate and effective actions to address the presence of these lawbreakers.
Speaking to the media, Frank Nelson Ackah noted that the police have already taken some steps, such as setting up barriers on certain sections of the Diaso-Asawinso road.
However, he emphasized the necessity for more robust mechanisms to prevent such tragic incidents from recurring.
“Over the past weeks, there was a robbery attack on market women who had stayed overnight at a filling station to continue their journey. Another man was attacked in a taxicab, and an unidentified man was found dead, suspected to have been killed.”
“We have sent the body to the Bibiani morgue for an autopsy and identification. We have met with the police, and while they are doing their best, we still need adequate security to address this menace,” he stated.
He reassured the residents that steps are being taken to ensure their safety and warned those involved in criminal activities to desist, as the law will hold anyone caught accountable.
The community remains on high alert as they await further action from the police to restore peace and security in the area.
