I didn’t ask Annoh-Dompreh to apologise to Bagbin; I did no wrong – Sefwi Wiawso MP

The Member of Parliament for Sefwi-Wiawso, Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, has distanced himself from the apology rendered on his behalf by the Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, following his expulsion by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.

The incident occurred during a discussion on the nomination of two justices to the Supreme Court by President Akufo-Addo.

Speaker Bagbin had urged the House to examine the issues surrounding the full complement of the Supreme Court when the Appointments Committee presents its report.

However, Dr. Afriyie disagreed with the Speaker’s remarks, stating that it was not within Bagbin’s purview to make such comments.

This disagreement led to the Speaker ordering Dr. Afriyie’s removal from the House, describing his comments as “rude” and “disrespectful.”

In response, the Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, apologized to the Speaker on behalf of the caucus.

However, in an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News, Dr. Afriyie denied any wrongdoing and stated that he had not authorized the Majority Chief Whip to apologize on his behalf.

He maintained that his comments were neither insulting nor disrespectful to the Speaker and did not warrant an apology.

“He apologised on my behalf? Well, he doesn’t have my permission to do that and this one you can put on record. We’ll take it to everywhere. I haven’t done any wrong, why should I apologise?

“So far I haven’t done anything wrong. I haven’t insulted the speaker, I haven’t disrespected him, what happened where’s the disrespect?”
