President announces MMDCE Nominations for Western North Region

The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs has announced the nomination of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) for the Western North Region.

The nominations, made by His Excellency the President, were contained in a letter signed by the sector Minister, Ahmed Ibrahim, on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.

According to the statement, the nominations are in line with Article 243 (1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20 (1) of the Local Government Act, 2016 (Act 936) (as amended). The nominees will assume office as District Chief Executives upon the approval of their respective assemblies.

Below is the full list of nominees for the Western North Region:

  • Bia East – Francis Amankwah
  • Akontombra – Joseph Appiah
  • Bia West – Annor Matthew
  • Aowin – Stephen Morcher
  • Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai – Sebastian Obeng
  • Bodi – Stephen Baidoo
  • Juaboso – Alexander Adu Quist
  • Sefwi Wiawso – Dominic Gyasi
  • Suaman – Vasco Obour

The announcement sets the stage for the next phase, where the respective district assemblies will decide on the fate of the nominees through voting. If approved, they will be responsible for spearheading local governance and development in their respective districts.

Stakeholders, including political parties, traditional leaders, and community members, are keenly observing the process, as these appointments will significantly impact governance and development in the Western North Region.
