The Western North National Democratic Congress (NDC) has successfully completed a 2-day vetting process for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executive (MMDCE) aspirants.
The event, held at the Rockyeast Event Center in Sefwi Wiawso, saw 68 aspirants at the vetting proceedings vying for positions in nine districts and municipalities, including Wiawso, Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai, and Aowin municipal assemblies, as well as Bia West, Bia East, Juaboso, Bodi, Akontombra, and Suaman districts.
The vetting committee, chaired by the Western North Regional Chairman, Michael Aidoo, included Sampson Ahi, Member of Parliament for Bodi who represented the NDC Western North Parliamentary Caucus, George Ofori, Regional secretary, Nana Adewiah- Former Bia East Constituency chairman representing the NDC Western North Regional Council of Elders and others.
The committee expressed satisfaction with the aspirants’ performance and noted that their mandate is to shortlist three candidates from each district for the President’s final consideration.
Notably, Bibiani Anwiaso Bekwai municipality had the highest number of aspirants, with 17 candidates, while Juaboso had the lowest, with only 3 candidates.
The NDC has also emphasized its commitment to promoting women’s participation, with two women filing their forms for the MMDCE position.
These women are likely to be nominated as DCEs in their respective districts, given the direct communication from the Vice President’s office to prioritize women’s appointments.
