The NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Bia West, who also serves as the District Chief Executive, Bernard Gyebi Blay, has expressed his surprise over the party’s electoral losses in the constituency despite significant developmental projects spearheaded by the NPP government in the district.
Speaking in Yamatwa during Vice President’s tour, Gyebi Blay said, “I was amazed when Nana was speaking, and I asked myself, ‘So, upon all that the NPP has done for Bia, why do we still lose elections here?’”
He emphasized that the NPP has consistently engaged with the local communities, addressing their needs and fulfilling their requests. “We come to your doorsteps to ask what you want, and we make sure to bring those developments to you, yet the NPP still loses elections in Bia,” he remarked.
He pointed to the visit of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in 2020, during which the Vice President granted the community’s request to build a market.
Bernard Gyebi Blay hoped Dr. Bawumia would grant further requests during his visit Bia West District.
“In 2020, H.E. the Vice President was here and granted us our request by building our market for us, and I know today, too, he is going to grant us another request.”
Appealing to religious leaders, he called for prayers for himself, Dr. Bawumia, and the NPP to achieve victory in the upcoming elections. “To our Imams and pastors, please pray for me, Dr. Bawumia, and the NPP to win first in Bia—making history in Ghana’s election—so I can go to him for more developmental projects.”
Bernard Gyebi Blay noted that party loyalty often overshadows the NPP’s achievements in the area, stating, “We tend to focus on party colours during elections instead of the developmental projects delivered by the NPP government.”
He listed several key projects undertaken in the district, including the construction of the ongoing first AstroTurf, the police headquarters, Essam Hospital, and the district court, all initiated under the NPP’s leadership.
“Even this district was created by the NPP government, and all the big projects in the district have been done by the NPP government,” he added.
Concluding his remarks, Bernard Gyebi Blay expressed confidence that, with God’s grace, the NPP would emerge victorious both in Bia West and across the country in the general elections.
“We pray, and we know by the grace of God, NPP will win in Bia West and Ghana. Thank you very much.”
