Thousands of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters and residents of Sefwi Wiawso filled the streets in a vibrant display of unity and strength during a health walk organized as part of the party’s ongoing campaign activities.
The event, which drew participants from various communities within the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality, served as a powerful demonstration of the NDC’s deep-rooted presence and influence in the area, particularly as the 2024 general elections approach.
The health walk was graced by the presence of several high-profile NDC leaders, including the party’s running mate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, who was greeted with overwhelming enthusiasm.
Her arrival sparked a wave of excitement among the crowd, with supporters chanting “Maame oo Dendei” in a rousing welcome. This reception underscored her popularity and the strong connection she has with the grassroots base of the NDC.
As she joined the walk, Professor Opoku-Agyemang was surrounded by throngs of supporters eager to catch a glimpse of her and exchange pleasantries.
The atmosphere was charged with energy, as participants expressed their commitment to the NDC’s cause. Many wore party paraphernalia, waving flags, and banners that bore the images of NDC leaders, including former President John Dramani Mahama.
Addressing the gathering at the conclusion of the walk, Professor Opoku-Agyemang commended the Sefwi Wiawso NDC for organizing such a successful event.
She emphasized the importance of maintaining good health as a foundation for the nation’s development and linked this to the NDC’s broader agenda of improving healthcare in Ghana.
In her speech, Professor Opoku-Agyemang also made a passionate appeal to the electorate, urging them to vote for John Dramani Mahama and Kofi Benteh Afful, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Sefwi Wiawso.
She stressed that the NDC has a track record of delivering on its promises and that the party remains committed to addressing the pressing needs of Ghanaians.
Kofi Benteh Afful, the NDC’s Parliamentary Candidate for Sefwi Wiawso, took the opportunity to outline his vision for the constituency.
He vowed to prioritize the creation of job opportunities, especially for the youth, by leveraging the agricultural potential of the area.
According to him, agriculture remains a critical sector for economic development, and with the right policies and support, it can provide sustainable livelihoods for the people of Sefwi Wiawso.
He also emphasized the need for educational development, promising to convert the abandoned E-block in Sefwi Boako into a Girls Senior High School if elected. This, he noted, would significantly boost girl-child education in the municipality and contribute to the overall development of the region.
However, Benteh Afful’s address was not without a note of caution. He issued a stern warning to his political opponents, urging them to refrain from an attempt of engaging in election violence.
He emphasized that the NDC is committed to a peaceful electoral process and that any attempts to undermine this would be met with firm resistance.
Former Member of Parliament for Sefwi Wiawso, Paul Evans Aidoo, also spoke at the event, rallying the crowd to support the NDC in the December 7 elections.
He reminded the supporters of the NDC’s achievements during its time in government and urged them to vote in large numbers to ensure the party’s victory.
Aidoo emphasized the importance of being vigilant at the polls, cautioning against complacency and urging the supporters to protect their votes from any potential rigging.
The Western North Regional Chairman of the NDC, Michael Aidoo, reinforced this message, assuring the crowd that the party is prepared to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
He expressed confidence in the NDC’s chances of winning the upcoming elections but stressed that this could only be achieved with the active participation of every supporter.
