The Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area has issued a stern warning to journalists and media houses, urging them to refrain from associating the traditional council with any political party affiliations.
This announcement follows recent visits by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to the Sefwi Wiawso Constituency. These visits have been inaccurately reported as endorsements by the traditional authority.
During a press conference held at the Okogyeabour Palace, the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council emphasized the importance of maintaining the apolitical nature of their institution.
Nana Elluo Panyin III, the Chief of Sehwi Nsuasua and Kyidomhene of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, asserted that the council remains a non-partisan body dedicated to the welfare and development of their communities.
“The council is committed to the development and welfare of our people without any political bias. Our doors are open to all individuals and parties who wish to pay their respects or discuss developmental issues, regardless of their political affiliations,” stated Nana Elluo Panyin III.
The council urged journalists to adhere to ethical standards by reporting accurately and avoiding the spread of misinformation that could undermine the council’s neutrality.
They highlighted several incidents where media reports inaccurately portrayed the traditional council as being aligned with specific political parties following visits by political leaders.
Such misrepresentations, according to the council, risk creating unnecessary divisions within the community and distorting the true purpose of these visits.
The Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council reiterated its commitment to serving the community impartially and called on all stakeholders, including the media, to support their efforts in fostering unity and development.
