GAAM rejects Local Gov’t Ministry’s Ex Gratia Proposal

The Ghana Association of Assembly Members (GAAM), Western North Regional Chapter, under the leadership of Regional President Frank Nelson Ackah, has firmly rejected the proposal put forth by the Local Government Ministry concerning the payment of ex gratia to outgoing assembly members nationwide.

In a resolute statement, Frank Nelson Ackah conveyed the chapter’s stance, declaring that they would not entertain any such proposal.

He underscored the need for the ministry to reassess its position and issue a revised proposal, citing glaring contradictions within the current document’s clauses and standing orders.

The Regional President highlighted what he deemed as unlawful actions on the part of the Ministry, particularly in proposing specific amounts for ex gratia payments.

He pointed out inconsistencies in their statement and questioned the Ministry’s historical stance on matters concerning assembly members’ allowances and travel expenses during assembly meetings.

“When has the Ministry ever proposed payment for our allowances and T&T during assembly meetings?” Ackah questioned.

“They need to come again, as we cannot accept such unlawful actions against outgoing assembly members,” he firmly asserted.

Asserting the rights of outgoing assembly members, the Regional President stressed that they could not condone such unlawful actions.

Frank Nelson Ackah urged swift action from the Ministry to facilitate the payment of ex gratia to outgoing assembly members, stressing the importance of timely and just compensation for their service.
