Anhwiafutu Primary School turns death trap

Anhwiafutu Primary School in the Sefwi Akontombra District of the Western North region has become a major safety concern as its deteriorating structure poses a serious risk to over 300 pupils.

The school, which serves as the only primary education facility for children in the community, is in a deplorable state, with cracks in the walls, a leaking roof, and a weak foundation that threatens to collapse at any moment.

The current condition of the school makes learning nearly impossible. The walls have developed deep cracks, showing clear signs of structural weakness.

The roof is severely damaged, with multiple leaks that allow rainwater to pour into classrooms whenever it rains.

Pupils are often forced to squeeze into specific areas of the classroom to avoid falling debris or getting drenched by rain.

Desks and teaching materials frequently get soaked, disrupting lessons and reducing the effectiveness of teaching and learning.

The hazardous condition of the school has raised concerns within the Anhwiafutu community, as the lives of hundreds of children are at risk. The fear of a possible collapse has made the school an unsafe space, and urgent intervention is needed to prevent a disaster.

Residents and stakeholders are calling for immediate action from the government, the Ghana Education Service (GES), and corporate organizations to address the situation.

The school requires urgent renovation or complete reconstruction to provide a safe and conducive learning environment for pupils.

A failure to act swiftly could lead to tragic consequences, putting the future of hundreds of children in jeopardy.

The state of Anhwiafutu Primary School is a reminder of the need for continuous investment in rural education infrastructure to ensure safe and quality learning environments for all children.
